After expanding in New York City earlier this year, Cargomatic is headed for the Golden Gate, launching its Uber-like same-day local trucking service in the San Francisco Bay area.
Genesee & Wyoming Inc. today announced it has made an investment in and formed a strategic alliance with Cargomatic, Inc. (Cargomatic), a technology platform connecting shippers and truck carriers with a focus on short-haul markets.
A $35 million injection will help the business expand after its rocky start in the freight load-matching technology sector
“Ports in California seek ways to speed up cargo shipments after labor strife by using the Uber-style app, Cargomatic.”
“Shippers use Cargomatic for lower priced deliveries and truckers turn to the app to make extra money. The app is starting to catch on.”
“Cargomatic’s free flow program at the Port of Los Angeles is very promising and seems to be the one thing that both port management and labor support.”
“Cargomatic is aiming to do for short-range trucking what Uber and Lyft have done for taxi drivers: use the capabilities of smartphones to connect drivers to freight and people nearby that need moving.”
“Every day I hear about a new ‘Uber for X’ startup and most of them are pretty crappy, but every now and then one comes across my desk that’s actually pretty cool.”
“Truck drivers, who are paid by the trip, find the operation to be much more efficient and they therefore generate more trips per day.”
“… pairs shippers with truckers who are nearby, heading the right direction and have room in their vehicles.”
